The BSCES Public Awareness and Outreach Program
Presented by: Boston Society of Civil Engineers
Strand: K-12 Education
Learn more about the many initiatives put forth by the Boston Society of Civil Engineers including their Model Bridge Contest (grades 5 to 12), the Future City Competition (grades 6 to 12), Online Bridge Design Contest (grades 6-12), the Infrastructure Day Signature Competition (next year open to all grades K-12), their bridge tours, TV show, books, school visits, bridge models, job shadow opportunities and much more. You may have seen us over the years with our large bridge models, our LEGO based shake table, or some of our creative hands-on activities such as building towers from animal balloons or catapults from paint stirrers. Beyond our work directly with students, our members aim to team with educators, helping them develop and enact meaningful STEM programs and gathering interested parties to help other large initiatives be more successful. Among the larger events we attend are the Cambridge Science Festival, the Girl Scouts eastern MA and central MA STEM events, the Wellesley STEM Expo, the Girls STEM Summit at Regis College, the Boston Schools Science Fair, and many others.
