Seeds of STEM: Research-based, Integrated STEM Curriculum for Preschool-K Settings

Presented by: The STEM Education Center at WPI

Seeds of STEM is a year-long, integrated STEM curriculum for preschool and kindergarten settings. The curriculum was developed with funding from the U.S Department of Education (IES, #R305A150571) in full alignment with Massachusetts and national standards, with the goal of helping young children develop the foundational STEM skills of problem solving, at the most critical stage in development.

The curriculum was developed by a team of teachers and researchers, and tested in close to 40 classrooms. A pilot study found that teaching Seeds of STE.M enhanced teachers’ knowledge, practice, and self-efficacy regarding the teaching of STEM in preschool classrooms (compared with a control group), and increased the quality of classroom interactions, as measured by the validated CLASS tool.
