Merrimack College Partnering for STEM Success: Teaming Up to Support STEM Efforts
Presented by: Merrimack College
Strand: Higher Education
Merrimack College’s Innovation through Engineering and Computer Science (iTEC) program is a model for STEM student success that uses a student-centered approach to academic preparation and learning, and creates an integrated institutional network of supports that increases students’ self-efficacy, sense of belonging to their major, and belief in the importance of their contributions to society. The Lawrence Early College Initiative brings Lawrence High School juniors to campus for access to college-level biology and lab space not available at their school, in an effort to advance urban students’ opportunities and success in college and career. Merrimack is also proud of our long-standing program the Lawrence Math and Science Partnership (LMSP), which brings together at-risk students and college students for mutual inspiration, as well as the Merrimack Institute for New Teacher Support (M.I.N.T.S.) and the Educational Resource Center (ERC) which both provide support for pre-service and in-service teachers and others on campus. At our exhibit, visitors will learn more about the integrated aspects of our projects, and will be asked to share their own best practices in retention and improved outcomes for students in higher ed, as well as improved linkages between K-12, higher ed, and workforce representatives.
